FARMERS in central Victoria are invited to a free forum to help them make more informed decisions and adapt to change.

The forum is on Friday, May 6, and being organised by the Department of Primary Industries.

DPI AgFutures project officer Robyn Bell said the forum would focus on long-term farm business decisions.

"Drought, floods, climate change, increased competition for natural resources, population change and global economic conditions are all providing real challenges for our farming communities," Robyn said.

A presentation on planning controls within different shires and how they affect farming will be done by the Seymour Wool Marketing Group.

Regional planning policies will also be covered by the Department of Planning and Community Development.

DPI senior business economist Tony Berrisford will speak on the state of farms around the region and the Municipal Association of Victoria will cover rating strategies in various shires.
